The Harvard Joint Program in Transfusion Medicine consists of the transfusion services (Blood Banking, Donor Center, Therapeutic Apheresis and Stem Cell Laboratory) at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Boston, and the Dana Faber Cancer Institute. Collectively, these facilities provide blood components and laboratory testing for tertiary care centers with over 1,000 beds in support of a range of clinical services including pediatric and adult transplant, intensive care, and centers for the treatment of sickle cell anemia and hemophilia. In conjunction with the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, its transfusion medicine fellowship provides comprehensive training in all aspects of transfusion medicine in diverse hospital settings, including obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, general surgery, internal medicine, and subspecialties such as bone marrow transplant and oncology. Benefited from the rich academic environment, various basic and clinical research projects are being conducted within the program. Our mission is to advance the field of Transfusion Medicine by conducting innovative research, by establishing best practices in clinical care, and by educating the next generation of transfusion medicine and blood bank physicians.
